Investigations on Gold‐Catalyzed Thioalkyne Activation Toward Facile Synthesis of Ketene Dithioacetals

The golden days: Nucleophilic addition to thioalkynes was investigated under various catalytic conditions with gold(I) complexes being identified as the optimal catalysts. Structural evaluation of the product revealed an unexpected cis-addition, arising from a gold-associated thioketene intermediate. Based on this interesting mechanistic insight, a gold(I)-catalyzed thioether addition to thioalkynes was developed as a novel approach to prepare ketene dithioacetals with good yields and high efficiency.

The cover picture shows a natural environment where green leaves are growing in the presence of sun light, which is also responsible for the dried leaves falling onto the ground. Similarly, the chiral secondary amine not only catalyzes γ-alkylation reactions to form the R-isomers (major) but also destroys the corresponding S-isomers (minor). This in situ kinetic resolution contributes to the enantioenrichment of the γ-alkylated products along with the actual catalytic alkylation reaction. Details are discussed in the Communication by M. The cover picture shows the most important feature of the present paper, the X-ray structure of bromo(difluoro­methylene­phosphonato)cuprate. This compound is mentioned in various reports, and we were determined to isolate it and drag its structure into the spotlight. As this structure contains copper and zinc, two heavy metals, we are presenting this heavy metal ensemble on a stage. The structure is highlighted with spotlights and framed by the coupling reaction it catalyzes. A concert-like atmosphere is created by the dark background and the audience. A low-cost and easy-fabrication technique is developed to enhance the conductivity and holeextraction ability of spiro-OMeTAD by doping it with commercially available benzoyl peroxide (BPO). The BPO-doped spiro-OMeTAD layer shows high conductivity and is an efficient hole-extraction material for CH3NH3PbI3, thus greatly enhancing the charge transfer and the power conversion efficiency of the device.

MOST excellent! Photoconversion of the dihydroazulene/vinylheptafulvene (DHA/VHF) photothermal couple through multiple energy storage and release cycles enables its usage as a molecular solar thermal energy storage (MOST) system. In toluene, the DHA/VHF system can be cycled more than 70 times with less than 0.01 % degradation per cycle. The performance of this couple is also evaluated in prototype photoconversion devices.

These probes exhibit dual-fluorescence emission and the selective intracellular localization of some probes in mitochondria and lysosomes was demonstrated, enabling monitoring of mitochondria and lysosomes in living cells in one step.

Cation-bound &#x3C0; systems: The C2H2/4⋅⋅⋅M+⋅⋅⋅C2H2/4 (M+=H+, Li+, Au+) complexes are analyzed by means of MP2 and CASPT2 calculations. In the proton-bound &#x3C0;-electron species (see figure), &#x3C0;⋅⋅⋅H+⋅⋅⋅&#x3C0; hydrogen bonds occur, and similar &#x3C0;⋅⋅⋅Au+⋅⋅⋅&#x3C0; and &#x3C0;⋅⋅⋅Li+⋅⋅⋅&#x3C0; interactions are detected for the gold and lithium complexes, respectively.

This review covers recent advances in the area of MMP-13-specific inhibitors, which lack the risks associated with the inhibition of other MMP isoforms. With greater insight into the mechanism of action of MMP-13 and the pathogenic process of OA, research into selective MMP-13 inhibitors will make significant breakthroughs for patients suffering from OA in the near future.

Setting the PACE with concurrent control of conformation and binding: Most substrates of proteases form a &#x3B2;-sheet with the active site upon binding. New &#x3B2;-branched residues, known to favor &#x3B2;-sheet conformation in linear peptides, were introduced at the P3 Val position of inhibitors of the serine protease PACE4. Through this P3 strategic position, it was possible to obtain potent and selective inhibitors, by additive &#x3B2;-sheet conformation control and salt bridge formation with PACE4 Asp160.

Effects of Pimozide Derivatives on pSTAT5 in K562 Cells

Neuroleptic goes anticancer: New derivatives of pimozide were obtained with potent growth inhibitory and apoptotic activity in K562 BCR-ABL-expressing leukemia cell lines. The detection of overexpressed phosphorylated STAT5 with a fluorophore-conjugated monoclonal antibody (anti-pSTAT5) resulted in strong inhibition with derivatives at a concentration of 10–15 &#x3BC;m, in contrast to pimozide, active at 30 &#x3BC;m under the same conditions.
