Solid‐State Lithium Conductors for Lithium Metal Batteries Based on Electrospun Nanofiber/Plastic Crystal Composites

Crystal clear: Organic ionic plastic crystals containing a high lithium concentration are developed as selfstanding composite electrolytes with electrospun polyvinylidene fluoride nanofibers. The electrolytes exhibit a wider electrochemical window and higher Li+ transference number than low-concentration Li-doped composites. Cycling of Li|Li symmetric cells and Li|LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 cells is also demonstrated at ambient temperature.

Crystallite growth energetics: We give a detailed account of the limiting factors of a solvent-annealed bulk-heterojunction small-molecule organic solar cell. A mechanism for the formation of crystalline domains of donor molecules in the active layer is proposed, and microstructure features are related to the JV characteristics of the devices. The energetics of crystallite growth determine the establishment of a JV characteristics–structure relationship.

Pd on polydopamine: The application of Pd–polydopamine and magnetic Fe3O4@Pd–polydopamine catalysts in catalytic transfer hydrogenation reactions and the Heck arylation is reported. The reduction of a wide range of aromatic nitro-compounds bearing both electron-donating and -withdrawing substituents to the corresponding anilines could be efficiently performed, although the reduction of carbonyl compounds was found to be less general.

Coming together: The integration of TiO2 with a AuI complex containing a thiocoumarin moiety results in a catalyst that is intrinsically active for the photogeneration of H2. This is the first example of a AuI-complex–semiconductor hybrid photocatalyst. The rate of H2 generation under dynamic conditions from water/ethanol is approximately one order of magnitude superior on a metal basis to that obtained over conventional TiO2 decorated with Au metal nanoparticles.

Unleashed activity: Effects of ketimide ligand distortion that result from its intramolecular tethering in Ti half-sandwich complexes are investigated with respect to the olefin polymerization activity. The role of the cocatalyst on the catalytic performance is decisive. Huge differences between the studied complexes are found if Al-based cocatalysts are used, whereas the activating system in which hydrosilane and B(C6F5)3 are used performs well for both types.

The result is a heterodimer with different active sites.

The route matters: A series of M2(BDC)2(DABCO) (M=Zn, Co, Ni, Cu; BDC=1,4-benzene dicarboxylate; DABCO=1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane) metal–organic frameworks (M-DABCO) are prepared by using a solvothermal route, and their activity in the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides is investigated. The most active catalyst, Zn-DABCO, is also prepared by using a spray-drying method and the physicochemical properties of both types of Zn-DABCO are compared.

Novel boron complexes were designed and synthesized for realizing constant emission during phase transitions. The synthesized complexes show bright emission in various phases. Additionally, the luminescence color changes drastically during phase transition. We also found that diverse luminescence colors were obtained for each polymorph and for different substituents.

We studied the transient electron-transfer process induced by a femtosecond laser pulse in nanocrystals of CsCoFe and RbMnFe Prussian Blue analogues by time-resolved X-ray absorption near-edge structure and time-resolved optical spectroscopy. The results clearly evidence ultrafast CoIII(low spin)FeII[RIGHTWARDS ARROW]CoII(high spin)FeIII and MnIII(low spin)FeII[RIGHTWARDS ARROW]MnII(high spin)FeIII electron-transfer processes.

Turbo-active sites: A 3 D nanoarchitectured turbostratic &#x3B4;-MnOx is directly constructed on carbon nanotube-modified nickel foam (MnOx/CNT/NF). The MnOx/CNT/NF electrode exhibits excellent performance for electrochemical water oxidation, giving a benchmark catalytic current density (10 mA cm−2) at an overpotential of 270 mV under alkaline conditions.

Quantum chemical calculations and further experimental evidence demonstrated that formic acid catalyzed the formation of furfural by reducing the energy barriers for decarbonization and dehydration.
